Web Designer

BCIC Innovator Skills Initiative (ISI) Program

Start Date: as soon as possible, work term until Dec 21st, 2018 with possibility to extend through April 2019

Reports to: CEO, OPEN

Hours of Work: Between 15-30 hours per week (can be flexible depending on your school schedule and course load)

Wage/Salary: $21/hr, contractor

Location: We are based in the HiVE Co-working space, within an industry cluster of architecture, engineering and construction professionals known as the ZEBx Innovation Cluster .

OPEN is a social enterprise and collaboration platform with over 10 years experience building innovative software solutions for accelerating the impact of high performance buildings. We are a small software firm that punches above its weight and delivers solutions for the architecture, construction and engineering sectors. You will receive mentorship and training from our Chief Technical Officer throughout your employment, and get to work in our vibrant co-working space in Gastown.


What will your responsibilities be?

  • Designing a new website for OPEN that leverages our brand assets and is based on an understanding of our marketing objectives
  • Planning and development of landing pages for the different projects that we work on, performed with our digital marketing activities in mind, including SEO strategy and social media
  • Developing a site maintenance plan, SEO strategy, and analytics targets for our various web presences, as needed

Who are you?

You have:

  • Sound knowledge of HTML/Javascript
  • Experience with UX/UI research and strategy
  • Strong design sensibility and graphic design skills
  • Experience with, or a willingness to learn about search engine optimization and tracking conversion rates
  • An understanding of and interest in current online marketing concepts, strategies and best practices
  • A willingness to learn new things, problem-solve, ask for help, admit your mistakes and share your expertise generously.  

Bonus if you have prior knowledge of the architecture, engineering and construction sector!

Eligibility Requirements

Due to BCIC Innovator Skills Initiative (ISI) Program requirements, you must:

  • Be currently enrolled at an accredited BC post-secondary institution
  • Not be a co-op student at the institution where you are enrolled
  • Be willing to complete the ‘Virtual Market Validation Training’ offered through New

Ventures BC during your employment period
